of the Plans
for Life: Wills, Power of Attorney and Estate Planning community
awareness seminar which was held at the
Redbank Plains Library from on Tuesday 19 August,
2003.
The presenter at the seminar was Rick Kilgour, Client Services
Officer, The Public Trustee of Queensland.
Topics included:
- Enduring Power of Attorney - What is power of attorney?
A power of attorney is a legal document that authorises another person
to do
certain things on your behalf. There are different types of powers
of attorney:
- Financial
- Medical
- Enduring
- Will Making - What is a Will? A will is a legal
document and allows you to choose: who will receive your assets and
belongings after you die, and who will be responsible for managing
your estate ie. your executor
- Estate Planning - What is estate planning? Estate
planning has two aims:
- To try and minimise any next of kin suffering financially.
- To minimise disputes in a family as to who gets what.
