German Shepherd sittingYour Dog's Wellbeing: a behaviourist approach

Get inside your dog's head and work out why they behave the way they do - that was the aim of this community awareness session which was held at the Ipswich & Redbank Plaza Libraries. It was aimed at dog owners who are experiencing behavioural problems with their pets.

Aspects covered in the seminar included:

  • Dog pyschology - how a dog thinks and acts in the social order, how a dog learns and why prevention is better than cure
  • Behavioural problems - these are diverse and range from unnecessary barking, destructive chewing & digging to phobias, separation anxiety
  • Child safety around dogs - and how to avoid being bitten, interpreting a dog's body language, controlling your fear
  • Legal issues - registration, fencing, noise abatement, roaming dogs, dog attacks

As a companion to the seminar, the Ipswich Library and Information Service, has compiled a package of fact sheets (available to attendees at the seminar), reading lists, web sites and periodicals available online.
