castle towersIs Your Home Your Castle?...you and everyday law

Common neighbourhood disputes such as disagreements about fences, barking dogs, trees, drainage, noisy parties and many other issues, can be solved in a number of ways. Rather than allowing a problem to manifest where legal action must be taken, let's become informed and learn what our responsibilities are, what rights we have, and what avenues there are for redress.

The following issues were discussed at the Is Your Home Your Castle? community awareness sessions held at the Ipswich & Redbank Plaza Libraries:

  • Noise - from parties, televisions, musical instruments, lawn mowers, swimming pool pumps, air conditioners
  • Animals - the keeping of dogs, cats and other animals
  • Trees - overhanging boundaries, footpaths, nature strips
  • Fences - boundaries, common disputes
  • Unauthorised entry - onto your property
  • Home security
  • Theft - from your property
  • Home invasions - defending your home against intruders
  • Police/Local Council - who to contact

As a companion to the seminar, the Ipswich Library and Information Service has compiled links to relevant Web sites and periodical articles available online.
