Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do you have word processing facilities?
All locations of the Ipswich Library & Information Service (except the Mobile Library) have Microsoft Office XP including word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and Powerpoint available. These services are offered on a self-help basis.

Do you have the Internet? What is the cost and do I have to book?
All locations of the Ipswich Library & Information Service offer Internet access. Services available include: World Wide Web; Chat; Web-based E-mail. Word processing, scanning of documents, photos, slides & negatives, downloading music, and saving to floppy disk, CD-ROM and USB drives are also available at all locations except the Mobile Library. Please note that Newsgroups, Telnet, and FTP services are not provided. Please see our Internet Computers page for more details.

Internet access will be free for Library members as of 14 July 2008, and $2.00 per half hour or part thereof (GST inclusive) for non-library members/Visitor's Card users. Payment should be by cash only. Black & white printing costs are 10¢ per page for Library members, and 25¢ per page for non-library members/Visitor's Cards. Colour printing is available at the Ipswich Library at a cost of $2.60 per A4 page.

Advance bookings are not required but highly recommended, as access is on a first come, first served booking or request basis.

How long does it take for a requested item to arrive?
It varies. A requested item may already be checked out to another patron, in which case you will receive notice that the item is available when it is returned, providing you are the only person requesting the item. There may be numerous requests placed on popular titles, and these are filled in the order they are received. If the item you requested is held at another location transportation time must also be taken into account.

How do I know when my requested item is ready for pick-up?
You will be notified by mail that your request is available for pick-up at the location you requested. Items are held for 1 week. If you do not pick up the item within that time it will be returned to the shelves or passed on the next person waiting for the item if there are other requests.

How do I get a job with the Library?
Please address all employment enquiries to the Ipswich City Council Human Resource Manager, PO Box 191, Ipswich, QLD 4305   Phone: (07) 3810-7846. E-mail: hr@ipswich.qld.gov.au
